Essential Oils
As for essential oils themselves, they are concentrated compounds extracted from aromatic plants to capture that plant scent, flavor and natural benefits. The compounds are found in seeds, flowers, bark, roots, leaves, stems, rinds, fruit and resin. Citrus fruits may cause photosensitivity requiring you to stay out the sun for at least 12 hours. Key notes to EOs interact with the body aromatically through the Alfactory Nerves, topically through the skin and internally through ingestion. Also, some require dilution before skin contact. And only some are safe for ingestion. Make sure to read and follow recommended usage per EO instructions provided.
Finally, when first starting to incorporate essentials oils into skin care, make sure to do a patch test. A patch test can be performed by applying 1 or 2 drops to your forearm. Reactions occur within 1 to 2 hours. If a bad reaction happens apply a carrier oil such as almond or coconut oil. If allergic reaction occurs do not proceed with usage of that essential oil.
